Battleground is a player versus player shooter game in which one hundred players fight in a battle royale, a sort of massive final man standing after death where players fight to survive the ultimate.  Players can enter a match with a singles, pair or a small team of up to four people.  The last person or team alive wins the match.  [1]

Each match begins with players parachuting on one of four maps, approximately 8 × 8 kilometers (5.0 × 5.0 mi), 6 × 6 kilometers (3.7 × 3.7 mi), and 4 × 4 kilometers (2.5 ×)  2.5 mi) in areas with areas of.  [2] The plane's flight path in the map varies with each round, determining the best time for players to quickly evict and parachute off the field.  [1] Players start without gear beyond a selection of customized clothing that does not affect the gameplay.

Once they land, players can search buildings, ghost cities, and other sites to find weapons, vehicles, armor, and other equipment.  These items are distributed systematically throughout the map at the beginning of a match, with some high-risk areas usually having better equipment.  [1] Killed players can also be robbed to gain their gear.  [1] Players may choose to play either from the first person or third person point of view, each of which has its advantages and disadvantages in combat and situational awareness;  However server-specific settings can be used to have all players in one perspective to eliminate certain advantages.  [3]
